"I Promise School", Lebron's vessel for urban educational change, is set to be fully operational by 2022. The elementary school, located in Akron, Ohio, is a labor of love paying homage to LBJ’s humble beginnings. Supported by the LeBron James Family Foundation, the school is dedicated to students who are already falling behind. The NBA All-Star takes back the narrative, referring to the selected “at-risk” children, grades one through eight, as “the chosen ones” - an ode to his career defining Sports Illustrated cover title that aided in propelling his already remarkable career into the stratosphere. Owning his adopted branding, the superstar now has the infamous words draped across his back in black ink. Living up to his godsent title on more than just the court, Lebron goes after “the one”, the “irredeemable” youth, by inviting them to the table and offering them the opportunity of a lifetime. All students in the program that meet certain academic criteria will receive a full college scholarship to the University of Akron. No stranger to philanthropic initiatives, Lebron deems ‘I Promise’ to be “the coolest thing that I’ve done in my life thus far”.
“Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others.” Philippians 2:4 (ESV)
If a man owns a hundred sheep, and one of them wanders away, will he not leave the ninety-nine on the hills and go to look for the one that wandered off? 13 And if he finds it, truly I tell you, he is happier about that one sheep than about the ninety-nine that did not wander off. 14 In the same way your Father in heaven is not willing that any of these little ones should perish. - Matthew 18
3 Then Jesus told them this parable: 4 “Suppose one of you has a hundred sheep and loses one of them. Doesn’t he leave the ninety-nine in the open country and go after the lost sheep until he finds it? 5 And when he finds it, he joyfully puts it on his shoulders 6 and goes home. Then he calls his friends and neighbors together and says, ‘Rejoice with me; I have found my lost sheep.’ 7 - Luke 15
